TPS92830-Q1: Unused channel

Part Number: TPS92830-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92624-Q1, TPS92613-Q1

Hi team,

Can I use TPS92830-Q1 as a 2 channel LED driver?

If possible, could you please tell me the terminal treatment for unused channels?

Best Regards,

  • Hi Kobayashi,

Could you tell me the application scenario? If you want to have a 2-channel solution, we have some other 2/4-ch linear LED drivers may meet your requirements perfectly.

For better recommendation, please tell me some details, like what is the output current for each channel? input voltage and output voltage? expected dimming mode or special requirements?

I would like to test the EVM board first and then answer your question about unused channels later.

    Many thanks!

    BR,

    Hailee.

  • Hi Hailee,

    Our requirements are below

     Vin : 15V

     ILED : 0.6A

     String : 2 (3-series LED and 2-series LED) VF:3V (So Vout is around 9V)

(Add an additional diode on the 2-series side to equalize the output voltage.)

It is normally off and occasionally emitted with pulses.
It is necessary to emit light quickly in response to the input signal.
Therefore, we chose the linear method.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Kobayashi,

I think 2 pcs TPS92624-Q1 could be a better option for this application which can help save the cost of 2 N-MOSFETs and 2 diodes.

You can parallel all output channels to output 600mA. This device is good at thermal control since it can support a function of thermal sharing via external resistors. In addition, this device is a linear driver, it can also support fast response.

    BR,

    Hailee.

  • Thanks for the suggestion.

We proposed internal FET and external FET solutions to our customers.

The customer has selected an external FET solution, but if it is clear why the TPS92830-Q1 cannot use 2 channels, we will suggest an integrated FET solution.
Please tell me why it cannot be used with 2 channels of TPS92830-Q1.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Kobayashi,

TPS92830-Q1 can be used as two-channel solution by pulling down the PWM pin corresponding to the channel.

But it is not recommended to use this device as the total cost will be quite high due to the inclusion of power FET.

Especially compared to TPS92624-Q1, TPS92624-Q1 is our new low-cost solution.

    Many thanks!

    BR,

    Hailee.

  • Hi Hailee,

    Thank you for answering.
I think I can also suggest TPS92613-Q1, but would TPS92624-Q1 be more recommended?

    Best Regards,

  • Yes, for your application, TPS92624-Q1 would be more recommended.

    BR,

    Hailee.
