BQ33100: BQ33100 learning

Part Number: BQ33100

Dears:

About the detailed learning procedure, for my good understanding , please help me on below question:

1. Charge to V Learn Max
Q1:if the value of V learn Max is a default value set in BQ33100, or the V learn Max is our product design value.
Example:we use 5 series 2.7v super capacitor connection, the V learn Max should be 5*2.7=13.5v?
Our system working voltage range set to :6~11.5v,the V learn Max should be 11.5v ?)。

We need to see if the Pin11 CHGLVL0 or Pin12 CHGLVL1 have to reserved to adjust the voltage or not.

2. Discharge using constant current load to a minimum voltage of the present charging voltage and internally record voltage and time
Q2:the same question as Q1 ,but related to the "a minimum voltage ", Our system working voltage range set to :6~11.5v,the minimum voltage should be 6v?

Appreciated your kindly help !

  • Hello,

The V Learn Max should be set to the max charge level of the capacitors, not your application.

The gauge will discharge down to the lowest of your defined charge voltage thresholds in order to learn the ESR and capacitance.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • got it with thanks ,one more question ,if BQ33100 could only implement the self-check to see the supercaps’ function without running the learning cycle, where and how to set ,any rule should to follow?

  • Hello,

The learning will be performed after Learning Frequency period in weeks. Learning is not required but it will impact accuracy over time.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • One more 3 questions, if i am not using the CHGLVL0/ CHGLVL1 to adjust the output voltage, the belows i should to study.

    1)how the learning go on?

2)if it works, but the voltage can not be adjust in this situation, is there any warning will issued?

3)if our external Board only has one voltage output,we select a voltage level of  V CHG X of BQ33100, but no response , is there any warning will issued ?

  • Hello,

You can use either the CHGLVL pins or the smart battery information (ChargingVoltage() and Charging Current())

The gauge will still indicate a failure (HLOW, HWARN, HFAIL) depending on where it estimates the charge level should be using the minimum system requirements for power and time.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
