I'm attempting to utilize the BQ25171-Q1. I intend to connect two 18650 lithium-ion batteries in series. Depending on the operational scenario, my design draws up to 1A from the battery, with a typical operating scenario being around 100mA. Is the BQ76905 BATTERY BALANCER necessary for my design? While I acknowledge that having it would be beneficial, I'm interested in understanding whether it is indispensable and the level of necessity.

    Hi JH Park

    Recommend checking with the battery cell manufacture on necessity of cell balancing circuit.  This will depend a lot on the cell, operating condition and load.

    As a general rule we do not see cell balancing used on two cell configurations.
