LM78M05-MIL: BYPASS CAPACITOR LIMIT

Part Number: LM78M05-MIL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM78M

I am using LM78M05CDT for generating 5 volts from 24 volts supply.

Is it safe to use 10uF Electrolytic capacitor at the output of LM78M05 as bypass?

How many [uF] can be connected?

This capacitor is used to suppress voltage fluctuations due to load fluctuations.

  • Hey Sato-san,

The output capacitor range is not characterized ,for LM78M05CDT device of LDOs. It can be  possible that 10uF Electrolytic capacitor can be used on LDO output.
Being quite old generation device, the output bypass capacitor range is not characterized and guaranteed by TI.

The architecture of LM78M doesn't need any bypass capacitor on the LDO output for the stable operation. The design in datasheet is only characterized with an output capacitor of 0.1uF only.
