TPSI3050-Q1: Continuous Drive

Part Number: TPSI3050-Q1

Hi - I would like to use this part to control a MOSFET that I'm using in a precharge circuit. Can this part be drive the mosfet continuously, i.e. keep the mostfet closed? If yes, what Rpxfr should I use since there is no duty cycle?

  • Hello Mable,

Thanks for reaching out to our team on E2E. Yes, TPSI305x-Q1 can be used to continuously drive a MOSFET. To better assist you, can you please share more details about your application such as:

    • MOSFET P/N
      • Is there a time requirement for first driving the MOSFET? (e.g. MOSFET needs to close in under 10-ms from power on)

What I'm getting at is that the R_PXFR value will affect how quickly the TPSI305x-Q1 can drive the MOSFET from power on. If you want to check the numbers yourself, please take a look at the TPSI305x-Q1 Calculator Tool (SLVRBI9) and input your system specs.

    Best regards,

  • Hi - There is no time requirement for me. So as long as EN is HIGH, then the FET will be driven high.

    thank you!

  • Hello Mable,

In pre-charge applications, we typically see an overall pre-charge time requirement (e.g. 400-ms). Once you have a MOSFET selected, I would encourage you to use the aforementioned TPSI305x-Q1 Calculator Tool (SLVRBI9), input the MOSFET total gate charge, and determine whether the t_start is appropriate for a given R_PXFR.

For example, if your overall pre-charge time requirement is 10-ms and you have selected a MOSFET with 100-nC total gate charge, then perhaps you might not want to select the lowest duty cycle in the event your system is expected to take 8-ms to charge since the t_start would take 3.3-ms .

    Best regards,
