TPS25831-Q1: maximum current 2.5A IEC62680 regulations

Part Number: TPS25831-Q1

Hi

we are designing a USB type-C board with the TPS25831-Q1 chip in Buck Average Current Limit configuration (no MOSFET) in auto DCP mode

the question is the following:

Does the USB regulation from the USB-IF committee require that the maximum current be 1.5A or 3A, or can it be reduced to 2.5A while still falling within the regulations?
If we lower the maximum current to 2.5A do we go outside the regulations?

due to the reduced spaces in a plastic casing we are forced to reduce the maximum current it can reach and we want to reduce it from 3A to 2.5A

we want to exclude the 1.5A mode at the moment

Thank you
