TPS796: Alternatives with faster rise and fall times of output voltage

Part Number: TPS796
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A94

Hi,

Could you recommend an alternative that allows Quick Start like TPS79633? I would like to make 5 V→3.3 V, but I would like to know a product with fast rise time and fall time of output voltage.

Best Regards,

NIshie

  • Hello Nishie,

By fast rise and fall time are you referring to the slew rate of Vout start up time? If so, based on the start-up plot and start-up time specified on the DS the Vout rise time slew rate is 60mV/us when Vin = 4V, Cout = 10uF, Iout = 1A and Cnr= 0.001uF. So, for Vout = 3.3V the Vout slew rate is about ~66mV/us with Cnr=0.001uF, COut = 10uF and Iout =1A.

Do you need a faster Vout slew rate? If so are there any other specific requirements outside of Vin=5V and VOut= 3.3V?

  • Hi Eunize-san,

    Thank you for your support.

I need a Vout slew rate same or faster than TPS79633. As shown in the figure below, I need an IC that quickly increases/decreases the output voltage to the same voltage as the input voltage during Power Up and Power Down.

    Specific requirements include the following:

    ・Maximum output current: 500 mA to 1 A
    ・Output accuracy: ±2% or less
    ・Surface mount package
    ・Temperature range: -40°C to 125°C
・Meet the power-up condition of MCU and FPGA
     →MCU:0.125~50V/ms or 0.05~50V/ms
     →FPGA:0.01~100V/ms
・Internal inrush current protection circuit and overcurrent protection function

    Best Regards,

    Nishie

  • Hello Nishie,

Thank you for specifying the requirements, I'll take a look and get back to you by tomorrow.

  • Hello Nishie,

I would recommend TPS7A94 (1A LDO). It has a soft-start time which depends on the fast start-up charging current, the reference current, the noise soft-start capacitor (Cnr) value and the output target. From Figure 6-33 and 6-34, we can determine the slew rate is ~0.165V/ms when Cin = Cout = 10uF, Cnr/ss = 4.7uF. The soft-start capabilities also help minimize inrush current into the output capacitor and load during start up. It also has a programmable current limit.

  • Hi Eunize-san,

Thank you for introducing me to the product.

I'm sorry for my insufficient explanation. Is there a good 3.3 V output fixed product?

    Best Regards,

    Nishie

  • Hello Nishie-san,

Unfortunately, we don't have a fixed output device that has a fast start-up, soft-start and meets the output slew rate you previously mentioned.
