BQ76907: Designing a battery management system

Part Number: BQ76907
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76905, BQ76952

Hi,

Could you please let me know if the part works with lithium-manganese dioxide (Li-MnO2) chemistry battery?

Best,

Chen

  • Hello Chen,

Yes, the part could work with that chemistry, the part itself only looks at the voltage of the cells, it does not really look into the chemistry.

  • Hi Luis,

Thank you for confirming with me. Now, if I were to configure multiple single cell in parallel and form a string to get the desired current, then configure the strings of parallel cells in series to get the voltage for my application, is there a battery management IC or a combination of ICs that I can use for monitoring, balancing and protection? Kindly let me know.

    Best,

    Chen

  • Hello Chen,

The BQ76907 can do all of these, it monitors the cell voltages and currents, it is able to perform internal or external passive cell balancing and it provides protections for many different cell conditions.

The exact part you use will depend on how many cells you use and your requirements. There is also the BQ76905 device, which is the 5s (5 cells in series) version of this device. Additionally, there's the BQ769x2 family, which integrates high-side FETs an goes up-to 16 cells in series.

Let me know if you have any further questions Slight smile

  • Hi Luis,

I have selected BQ76952 for my design and I am trying to import the component CAD model on Allegro system Capture 22.1 for schematic capture. I was able to successfully import the model on Allegro PCB editor that I now have the part in my library there but I am having trouble with importing the model on System Capture. Would you be able to help me with that? Thank you.

    Chen

  • Hello Chen,

I am not too sure how the Allegro PCB editor works, so I am not sure how I can help you there.

What I can tell you is that we do have BQ76952EVM Board Files that you could download. These are for Altium, but maybe you can import the PCB model from these files.
