Hi,
Please let me confirm about bq20z45-r1.
Does cell balancing become inactive after it becomes active?
If cell balancing becomes inactive after it becomes active, what are the conditions in that case?

After UpdateStatus becomes 0x0E, does UpdateStatus change to a value other than 0x0E? (0x02,0x04,0x05,0x06, etc.)
If UpdateStatus becomes a value other than 0x0E after UpdateStatus becomes 0x0E, what are the conditions?

    Hello Kob,

    Please refer to the TRM for the conditions to enter and exit cell balancing. There are many conditions when cell balancing will be disabled during normal operation.

    Once update status reaches 0x0E it should not change unless manually edited.

    Thank you for your answer.
    I wanted to also confirm whether "Cell balance is active" and "UpdateStatus=0x0E" are exactly the same thing, so I asked two similar questions.
    Please let me confirm just to be sure.
    Is the following understanding correct?
    Even when cell balancing is active, there are many conditions under which cell balancing "does not work". (during discharge, balanced, etc.)
    Once the state is [Cell balance is active]=[UpdateStatus=0x0E], this state is "maintained". (Unless UpdateStatus is manually edited.)

    If there is no mistake in my understanding, I will resolve the issue.

    Hello Kob,

    Yes the update status reporting 0x0E is a pre-requisite before cell balancing can start, it is a flash register so it will be maintained once it is set. There are other conditions which must be met in order for cell balancing to start depending on your settings, like getting a valid DOD and being in charge mode.
