TPS259230-41EVM: cannot work properly when replaced with TPS259270

Part Number: TPS259230-41EVM

Hi Team

customer is validating the TPS259270 with TPS259230-41EVM, there are two issues reported:

1. When soldering different pcs of TPS259270 to the EVM, the I_limit performance is different varies between 3.8A to close to 5A

2. It makes no differences of I_limit when changing the resistor connected to ILIM pin.

Is there anything should be paid attention to make the EVM run properly?

Thank you

best regards!

Joe

  • Hi Joe,

What is the input test voltage ?

Have you replaced U1 or U2 with TPS259270  ? Please use resistive load or e-load in CR mode for evaluation.

Can you test waveform of VIN, EN/UVLO, Vout and Iout

    Best regards,

    Rakesh

  • Hi Rakesh

Thanks, but why the test load can only use resistive load or e-load in CR mode? customer use CC mode in the test.

    Best regards

    Joe

  • Hi Joe,

(I will take over the support from Rakesh)

When we perform current limit test, the internal FET goes into saturation region and act like a constant current source. When you apply a CC load, that is like connecting 2 current sources in series which creates error in test.

Instead, we recommend using CR mode of e-load. This prevents that issue.

Did they try regular start-up. Is the device starting up fine? Also please check with the customer regarding these questions
