HD3SS3220: VCC33 power consumption

Part Number: HD3SS3220

Hi team,

my customer try to use a LDO convert VDD5V to VCC33, so he wants to know the maximum power consumption of VCC33

but I only found this power consumption table,

is this total consumption of both 3.3v and 5V or only for VDD5V?

  • Hi Fred,

VDD5 powers the CC controller while VCC33 powers the SS MUX. We can use the data in the table to find the current consumption on VCC33.

Take 0.9mA maximum, subtract 0.2mA for the CC controller and you have 0.7mA maximum draw from VCC33.

With this being a 3.3V rail, the power draw is 0.0007*3.3 = ~2.31mW

is this total consumption of both 3.3v and 5V or only for VDD5V?

The I(Active) is for both 3.3V and 5V supplies. Icc is only for the 5V rail.

    Best,

    Shane

  • Hi Shane,

    thank you for your elaboration.

what if VDD5 want to support active cable?

what will be the maximum current for VDD5?

  • Hi Fred,

Active cables draw power from VCONN, so you would need to add the current draw of VCONN to the current draw of the CC controller (Icc).

The maximum current for VCONN in the datasheet is 375mA.

The Maximum current for Icc is 0.2mA

Using these values, the maximum current of VDD5 would be 0.2mA + 375mA = 375.2mA

    Best,

    Shane
