Does the welding standard of this IC and the position of side cut copper require tinning welding

  • Hi user6350528,

I think this question can be interpreted in two ways: (1) whether tin-based solder can be used or (2) if the upright side of the pin needs to have solder on it as well as the portion of the pin that is flush with the PCB.

I'll answer both interpretations for the sake of clarity.

    (1) Yes, tin-based solder can be used.

    (2) The upright side of the pin does not need to have a visual solder connection for a good solder connection to be present on the side of the pin flush with the PCB. It's possible for the solder wetting to be reduced on the side of the IC while the solder joint itself is unaffected.

A good reference application note can be found HERE. Relevant sections here will be section 4.1 and section 5.4.

Please do let me know if you had a different question that I haven't addressed!

    Regards,
