Hi,
I have a PCB circuit from 2015 that makes use of the "LM3880MF-1AE/NOPB" power sequencer. The 2014 datasheet does not specify that the Enable (pin 3) should notbe connected to Vcc, hence, that was how I made the circuit connection in 2015. The PCB design from 2015 was fabricated and no anomalies were noted on the FPGA it was supposed to power on.
I have recently fabricated a new PCB using of the same schematic for the power sequencer + voltage regulator + FPGA (in the year 2023) and the board I was testing on was imediately damaged (the 5V input power rail was immmediately shorted to ground). I noticed that the 2021 datasheet revision of "LM3880MF-1AE/NOPB" recommends that the Enable pin should not be tied directly to Vcc, and would like to ask:
1. if there were any changes in the design or manufacturing process of the "LM3880MF-1AE/NOPB" that called for the update to caution against tying Enable to Vcc,
2. and if tying the Enable pin directly to Vcc could have caused the new board to be damaged (possibly due to an unstable initial transient or any other issue).
Thanks.
