TPS563231: Is it possible to use an inductance different from the recommended value?

Part Number: TPS563231

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering TPS563231 and has a question about inductance value.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

According to the datasheet P.14, Recommended values for inductance and output capacitance values are listed.
Is it possible to use L1 with 22uH(100mohm)?

The circuit conditions are as follows.
・Input voltage: 5V
・Output voltage: 3.3V
・Output current: 1.6Amax

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,

Using inductor with too large inductance will cause loop stability issue.

TPS563231 is a converter with D-CAP3 control which use the output voltage ripple to control its loop. If we use large inductor, the ripple would be much smaller and the loop would be unstable.

We don't recommend to use 22uH inductor and please follow our datasheet to choose 3.3uH or 4.7uH inductor for 3.3Vout.

  • Hi Athos,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand 22uH is too large and not recommended.

I'll share with the customer and change the inductance to recommended 3.3uH or 4.7uH.

I appreciate your great help and cooperation.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
