UCD3138CC64EVM-030: UCD3138 JTAG Connection Problems

Part Number: UCD3138CC64EVM-030
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD3138,

Part number:UCD3138CC64EVM-030(UCD3138)

Debugging probe:XDS110 JTAG

Development Environments:Code Composer Studio 12.5.0

problems:

Following the steps in the section How to Unlock Using JTAG in the reference document《 Avoiding UCD3138 Device Locking》 (of course our purpose is not to unlock the device but to successfully connect the device by JTAG), after Test Connection, an error occurs, and JTAG cannot be used successfully. the error screenshot is shown below:

We also searched the forums to try to resolve this issue and found a variety of causes for this error, we tried modifying the JTAG frequency to 1M, setting the project to UCD3138 Active, and modifying the IOMUX register to enable the JTAG function, but none of them solved the problem.

We hope that you will be able to help  us, thank you.

  • What JTAG emulator is used?

  • TMDSEMU110-U — XDS110 JTAG Debug Probe

  • Here's the full error log.

Can you help me with this?

  • I haven't used XDS110. I used to use XDS510. I think XDS110 should work.

What is purpose to use JTAG here ? For the debugging firmware, I think FDPS (GUI) device GUI is more convenient. Have you tried UCD GUI?

  • Thanks for the reply, the XDS110 is what the datasheet suggests. We have used the GUI, but we are currently in the pre-learning phase and want to familiarise ourselves with the code structure through JTAG debugging. Can you contact the relevant technician to help us with this?

  • Hi, I successfully connected the JTAG, but I encountered a new problem, as soon as I clicked "Resume" or “Step Return”, the programme would run away.

What's the cause of this? Is there a solution?

    Regards

  • I found a document how to configure UCD3138 JTAG. It can help. Let me know your email address, and I can email you.

  • Thanks, this is my email:Martin.Yang@etron.cn.Can you give some advice on my new problem?

  • Sean,Thanks for your support.

    I think it worked.

Although I still have some doubts, this problem is solved for now.

I'll try and fix it.New issues may be raised under a separate topic.

    Best regard.
