TLV61220: device recommendation when using alkaline zinc-manganese battery as power supply

Part Number: TLV61220
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61071, , TPS61322

Hi team

Customer evaluating our TLV61220 and TPS61071, the EE is Stylus, the voltage should be boosted from 0.9~1.5V to 3.3V. support needs below:

1. What's the consideration that TI have many UVLO setting like TLV61220 is 0.5-0.7V and TPS61071 is 0.8V. As the battery vendor feedback, the output voltage of the battery cannot lower than 0.9 V, otherwise the battery might expand.

2. What's your recommendation device for this application, it is better that can set the UVLO to 0.9V without the resistor divider in EN Pin。

thank you and best regards

Joe

  • Hi Joe,

As I perceived, the customer needs 0.9V EN falling threshold. Could you try TPS61322 ? The Vin shut down is about 0.8~V.

  • Hi Nini

thanks for your recommendation. I would like to clarify the first question, what's the other UVLO such as 0.5~0.7V designed for, if the battery lowest voltage is 0.9V.

    Thank you!

    best regards

  • Hi Joe,

The consideration is that some customer needs low Vin start up and need the converter work once the Battery is higher than 0.9V, other than the falling sequence. That is common consideration. Acutally lower UVLO feature is harder to achieve for the device design while higher UVLO could be achived through components outside, but lower ULVO could only depend on the device itself.
