LP2981-N: Replacement IC Comparison

Part Number: LP2981-N

Hello,

We have been looking to replace obsolete part LP2981AIM5-3.0/NOPB or LP298IM5-3.0/NOPB. I am wanting to verify if there is a functional difference between LP2981AIM5-3.0/NOPB/LP298IM5-3.0/NOPB and LP2981IM5X-3.0/NOPB. The datasheet does not show the LP2981AIM5-3.0/NOPB/LP298IM5-3.0/NOPB as existing, but I do see both marked as obsolete on Digi-Key and Mouser. LP2981IM5X-3.0/NOPB is shown as Active. Is it possible to explain why these part numbers are different when it appears they are the exact same part? The datasheet and Digi-Key/Mouser don't seem to make it obvious. Thank you.

  • Hey Anthony,

Apologies for the confusion here. The devices that show Active on TI.com are active there will be more information to come. For an alternative recommendation I would suggest using the TPS7A2430DBVR this is a drop-in replacement for the device.

The above devices had differences between A version and non-A as well as tap and reel size differences denoted with the X in the OPN. For more information, please refer to 10.1 Device Nomenclature table in the LP2981-N datasheet explains the OPN differences more in-depth.

    Thank you,

    McKyla
