UCC27201: The difference between 27201 and 27200

Part Number: UCC27201
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27200, UCC27200A,

Hi experts,

I'm a little confused about CMOS input and TTL thresholds. Can they be connected directly from C2000?

By the table, the input rising threshold is 5.8V, does it mean it has output only when input is higher than 5.8V? Please kindly help to explain. Many thanks.

BR,

Victoria

  • Hi Victoria,

Thanks for reaching out to TI.

The UCC2720X can receive an input signal from the MCU to amplify the current. There are cases where you would place a resistor before the HI/LI input of the gate driver. We have reference designs with both a C2000 and the UCC27201 located here.
The main difference between the TTL and CMOS inputs are the ranges of input voltage levels. In the case of the UCC27200 with the 5.8V you mentioned, this means that with in input voltage of 5.8V or greater, this will be read as a high state by the gate driver.

We would actually recommend using both the UCC27200A and UCC27201A over the non-A variants, as they boast negative voltage handling and additional flexibility in design with more pin and/or package counts.

  • Hi Jeremiah,

this means that with in input voltage of 5.8V or greater, this will be read as a high state

C2000 I/O voltage is 3.3V, if the output of C2000 is high, but 3.3V is lower than 5.8V, UCC27200 will recognize it as low. Please correct me if I'm not right.

  • Hi Victoria,

Thank you for posting to E2E. Jeremiah will get back to you shortly.

  • Hi Victoria,

Thanks for your patience over the 3-day weekend.

You are correct. The reference design uses the UCC27201, but the UCC27200 won't receive the C2000 3.3V input as a high state.

    Thanks,

    Jeremiah
