TPSM82810: Regarding WEBENCH, it cannot simulate default design when changing ambient temperature 30deg to 60deg

Part Number: TPSM82810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPSM82816

Dear Specialists,

My customer wants to simulate TPS82810 with Webench.

The circuit was opened using the initial settings in WEBENCH.

When they try to change select ambient temperature to 60deg, SIMULATE, the error message  "Design cannot be created!" is displayed.

Then they confirm ambient temperature is 30deg, the simulation was complete and Tj was 77.08deg.

This means Tj should be 107.08deg at ambient temperature 60deg, it is less than Tjmax 125deg.

Could you please let us know why it is not possible to simulate at 60deg.

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,

The temperature there is showing just one operating point--for this design, it is 6Vin.  At 2.75Vin (the design's minimum Vin), the temperature is higher and at the 125 C limit.  (Sliding the slider to 2.75Vin doesn't show the correct Tj, but if you look at the chart of Tj on the next tab, it shows the correct Tj.)

Webench worked for me with a 55 C ambient temperature, so you can try that.  Or you can update your Vin range, Vout, and Iout to match your specific application needs.

There is also the TPSM82816, which is pin to pin, if you need higher efficiency.  Thanks,

    Chris
