TPS2663: Difference between TPS26630 and TPS26631

Part Number: TPS2663

Dear TI experts,

My customer considers TPS2663 for their next project.

And They have a question about the difference between TPS26630 and TPS26631.

In the table above, the difference is overload fault response.

1. Can TPS26631 support under 2*I_ol current during 25.5msec if the load current exceeds I_ol?

And the current is over 2*I_ol during 25.5sec, TPS266131 is shut down. Am I right?

2. What is the advantage of TPS26631 regarding on the function of 2x active current limiting during 25.5msec?

3. I see that both TPS26630 and TPS26631 can support reverse voltage protection and reverse current protection. Am I right?

And Should I add other parts for input pin for use these 2 functions?

Please check these issues. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

I will get back by tomorrow EOD on this.

  • Please see response inline:

    1.

Can TPS26631 support under 2*I_ol current during 25.5msec if the load current exceeds I_ol? Yes

And the current is over 2*I_ol during 25.5sec, TPS266131 is shut down. Am I right? Yes

    2. Pulse current support allow device to pass transient current above system DC current . Some applications need that.

     3. I see that both TPS26630 and TPS26631 can support reverse voltage protection and reverse current protection. Am I right? Yes

And Should I add other parts for input pin for use these 2 functions?  Yes. Please see below from datasheet application section. You can refer EVM design also.
