TPS63900: TPS63900

Part Number: TPS63900
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS552892, TPS55165-Q1

TPS63900 with its input current limit is used to charge super capacitor 1.5 Farad. However, it has input voltage limit of 1.8 to 5.5 V. Having the energyharvester  with variable voltage generation range from 0 - 15 V with very low current (0 to 5 mA), it is not suitable for voltage above 5.5 V as per datasheet. Does an alternative IC (Buck and Boost converter) exist which can start from as low as possible voltage and can consume voltage up to 12 or 15 or 20 V.  A input current limit with 1 mA would be an additional advantage for us.

  • Hi Harshil,

    Thanks for reaching out.

TPS63900 was used at the super capacitor charging application, well, may I know what is the input voltage range, output voltage and output current at the last generation?

And what is the input/output specs for the device you want for this generation? Vout is 12V/15V/20V?

    BRs,

    Bryce

  • Thank you for Answer.
The Harvester generates 0 to 15V with max. 3 mA current (this is input to TPS63900 at the moment)
The TPS63900 is configured to give 5V output to charge 1.5F 5.5 V SupCap. Once supcap charged to 5V, it will be used to run further circuit (untill voltage reduced to 3 V) with average current consumption15 mA.

As mentioned before tps63900 may damage when harvester gives voltage above 5.5V. The use of an addtional converter between harvester and TPS63900 which can limit voltage for tps63900 is not good since it may consume addtional energy.

  • Hi Harshil,

    Thank you for your feedback.

We will check this and reply to you after the holiday.

  • Hi Harshil,

    Thanks for patience.

For 0-20V input voltage range, what about TPS552892? The operating input voltage can be up to 36V, and it can also adopt ISP and ISN pins for input current limit, but the accuracy is not good.

And if low Iq is required, you can look into TPS55165-Q1.
