CSD18542KTT: Designing with CSD18542KTT

Part Number: CSD18542KTT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM74502H-Q1, , CSD17578Q5A

Hello Team,
We are using an over voltage and reverse polarity circuit for an adapter input power based on TI's LM74502H-Q1 IC.

The adapter voltage is +12V.
the load current will be 12A.
The device will be 100% time ON.
We are not planning for any active cooling or heat sink for the MOSFETs.
Can you please suggest whether the MOSFET CSD18542KTT is a right choice for our application?.

Also, while looking for some MOSFETs, we have too many parameters like ID silicon limited, ID package limited and ID continuous current.
All current values are different.
Which value do we need to select for designing?.

Can you please suggest any videos, or documents which shows how to check the SOA of a MOSFET?.

Looking for your reply.

  • Hello Sv,

Thanks for your interest in TI FETs. If the MOSFET requires automotive qualification, TI does not offer any automotive qualified FETs. The CSD18542KTT is a 60V, 4mΩ NFET in D2PAK which is a large, higher cost device. Because the adapter voltage is only 12V, you may be able to use a lower cost 25V or 30V FET. Something like the CSD17578Q5A in a 5x6mm SON package would be smaller and more cost effective. TI has many products in this package if this particular device does not work for your application.

Please see the technical articles at the links below for more information on how TI specs continuous current in our FET datasheets, SOA graph and using the SOA graph.

Lastly, there is a FET SOA margin calculator in the LM74502H-Q1 product folder under the Design & development tab. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
