Hello, I have previously used the BQ40Z80 chip for a 6 cell lipo smart battery board. I'm now working on a smart battery board for a 7 cell lipo battery.

This post from 4 years ago recommended using bq34z100 with a protection IC instead. If this is still the recommended alternative, are there any specific protection ICs and circuits that can be recommended?

If there are better recommendations available now, could you please list the new alternatives? I found a couple of ICs through digikey for 7 cell batteries. Are these comparable in functionality and application as the BQ40Z80: BQ77307 and BQ76907?

Hi,

Please use the BQ34z100 + a battery monitor for a 7S application or contact your supporting TI tsr and ask them to reach out to the battery gauge team.

We currently use the BQ76952 as a Battery Monitor. Would you say this IC and the BQ34Z100 would be a good combination for a 7S application?

What about BQ78PL114/BQ78PL116? Could these chips alone be suitable as a Battery Monitor and a Fuel Gauge for 7S applications? Are there any TI ICs that can function as both a Battery Monitor and a Fuel gauge for 7S applications?
