LM25143-Q1: LM25143-Q1 chip Functional Safety level confirm

Hi,

In our power system design, we need to achieve ASIL-B safety level. I checked LM25143-Q1 datasheet and sffs247 doc, LM25143-Q1 itself can't seem to reach ASIL-B level. Do you have any way to make LM25142-Q1 schematic design reach ASIL-B safety level?

    Hello Shiyu,

    Please refer to the following app note (https://www.ti.com/lit/wp/snvaa92/snvaa92.pdf). 

    Specifically refer to Figure 2-2 and Figure 2-3 for reference designs targeting ASIL B.

    Note that the LM25143-Q1 is a functional safety capable (https://www.ti.com/lit/fs/sffs247/sffs247.pdf) device and can be used to meet a system level ASIL requirement.

    In the reference design case the LM25143-Q1 would be the "Wide Vin Regulator" block and it is up tp you how you want to implement the external circuitry for monitoring.

    Hi, Jimmy,

    Thank you for your feedback. 

    So if I want to use LM25143-Q1 as power supply to safety MCU in my design, I have to add external monitor circuit such as TPS37-Q1 to monitor Vout of LM25143-Q1 for achieving ASIL-B safety level. Am I right?

    If I need to power solution in my design reach ASIL-D level, whether LM25143-Q1 can reach ASIL-D level through adding external circuits?

    Hello Shiyu,

    I am trying to find literature available online but ultimately it would be based on the ISO 26262 standards and how you go about calculating the FIT values to meeting a system ASIL D.

    If I get more details from the team on this, I'll let you know.

    Hello Shiyu,

    Unfortunately there is no updates on my end as I've tried to find documentation for this but came back with nothing.

    What TI provides are the functional safety documentation for this device on the product page.

    This documentation, if followed and integrated into a system properly, is targeted for use in an ASIL C system, however this device has been used in systems for several customers for several years now in ASIL D applications.

    It is up to the customer end system designer to determine if our device meets the functional safety requirements of their system.

    By the way, according to LM25143 FuSa document content, it sames only achieve ASIL-B level through working together with TPS37-Q1. LM25143 sames can't meet ASIL-C. How does LM25143 achieve ASIL-C level?
