TPS65217: TPS65217 way to preserve the lithium battery charge cycle life

Part Number: TPS65217

Dear Sir/Madam,

We have a lithium battery connected to the TPS65217 pin 4 & 5 (BAT). We are trying to turn on the TPS65217 without charging the lithium battery to preserve the lithium battery charge cycle life (normally 300 to 500 charge-discharge cycles for an average lithium battery). Is there any way to turn on the TPS65217 with the CHG_EN register defaulted to 0?

Best regards,
Felix

  • Hi Felix,

I believe all our pre-programmed version of the PMIC have CH_EN default set to 1b. If you wanted the bit to be 0b by default you would need to use the user-programmable version of the chip TPS652170.

This would require programming of the other settings you want as well since the IC comes with blank memory at the start.

The only other option would be to disable CH_EN through I2C soon after communication is available for the pre-programmed versions.

    Regards,

    James
