UCC28056: IC for single stage flyback

We are using UCC28051 in our single stage PFC flyback stage for BLDC Ceiling Fan. Is there a way to use UCC28056 instead? Please explain exactly what will be the issues faced in such an application.

Mittal,

Can you please clarify why to consider UCC28056? It cannot be configured to single stage PFC/flyback. UCC28051 operates at CrCM mode all the time, but UCC28056 may operate at DCM mode. Please refer to section "8.3.1 CrM/DCM Control Principle" in UCC28056 datasheet for more details.

You could also consider TPS92210DR as another single stage PFC/flyback solution.

Cost is a major concern in this application and the market we operate in. By using UCC28056, will there be control loop stability issues or will it not meet the power factor requirements?

UCC28056 will not meet PFC requirement if used as a flyback.

Thanks a lot. Will UCC28056 give more than 0.9 PF in the CrCM mode (say more than 20% Load)?

It is hard to say. Depending on your design.

I really don't suggest to use UCC28056 for this purpose and our future support will be limited on this kind of use. Please contact our sales for price inquiry first.
