TPS543B20: Sense Pin connection in layout

Part Number: TPS543B20

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am using the TPS543B20 in my design. Could you explain why the Sense pins should be connected directly to the load or output capacitors? Will there be any issues if they are connected to the output of the inductor before the output capacitors?

Thanks,

Shifali N

It is the intend of the Remote Sense, that the output voltage be monitored remotely at the load so that the converter can compensate for losses and drop from the distribution resistance in order to provide the highest accuracy output voltage.

In addition, the amplification of the output voltage sense back into the loop can affect the loop performance with the higher ripple voltage that is present at VOUT right at the inductor before passing through the output capacitors as the output voltage right at the inductor includes more VOUT ripple due to the parasitic resistance and inductance in the traces between the inductor terminal and the output capacitors.
