TPS53689T: Getting fault while programming TPS53689T IC

Part Number: TPS53689T
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD95510, CSD95560

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I am getting fault in STATUS_MFR_SPECIFIC (80h)  command bit 4 and 6 is asserted.

Also there is fault in STATUS_OTHER command  bit 0. And in Status EXTENDED(0XD0) bit 25.

Even after Clear faults is done in Status tab, only bit 0 in STATUS_OTHER (FIRST_TO_ALERT) is getting cleared.

Then using CLR in STATUS_MFR_SPECIFIC and STATUS EXTENDED all faults are cleared. But did not get the required Vout (it is set to 1.1V).

Getting Vout as zero, as attached in image below.

Again when Clear Faults is done, getting fault only for PH_ERR(bit 4 in STATUS_MFR_SPECIFIC) and Vout as 0.002V.

Can you tell why this error is there and why I am not getting required Vout.

Regards,

Siddhi

  • One more question, while configure registers in Configure tab, 3 configure levels are given, How to decide which one is required for my application.

  • Hi Siddhi,

A PH_ERR means that there is an error with the powerstage itself. This could be a variety of different issues. Can you please verify what powerstage you are using and how many are being used? This will help me narrow down the possibilities.

    Best Regards,

    Nash

  • The 3 configure levels are there to limit how many settings can be changed depending on use case. Easy has the most limited options while advanced allows you to change basically every setting. Based on the other question you have asked, you should be using the advanced tab. Please email  to gain access to this tab.

  • Hi Nash,

We are using CSD95510 Driver IC. In this particular application, 2 rails are used for same Vout(same channel).

I have found this below attached error in STATUS_PHASE 1[MFR 12],

I have checked the voltage at VDD pin of driver IC, it is correct 5V(4.97V).

I guess there is some error while configuring  PHASE_CONFIG register B3h, which is creating this issue.

Can you tell us what is Side in phase config register, is it related to inductor or driver IC? How to choose the side?

Also, can you tell about phase and order in phase config register.

Which value to choose and how to select?

    Thanks,

    Siddhi

  • Thanks, I have sent mail to vr email id for access to advance tab.

  • Hi Nash,

I was using CSD95510 IC, but in my layout I have kept REFIN pin as NC. Hence I replaced CSD95510 with CSD95560 in which REFIN pin is NC.

Now, PH_ERR error is not there.

But getting FIRST_TO_ALERT fault in STATUS_OTHER register in Monitor page.

After Clear faults, the error is not there but getting 0V at output.

Also, tell please tell about  Phase_Config register, how to select phase, order and side.

    Thanks ,

    Siddhi

  • Hi Siddhi,

I believe that you are using 2 powerstages on the same channel. If this is the case, you will need to enable 2 PWMs in the phase config.

The PWMs that you enable need to correlate to the PWMs that you have connected from the controller to the powerstage. The powerstages will need the same page and phase but their order should be 0 and 1. It shouldn't make too much of a difference which powerstage is 0 and which is 1. When it comes to the North and South selections, this feature is used when you have split power on both sides of the ASIC. In this case with 2 phases, I would assume that they are not on both sides of an ASIC and so choosing either North or South for both of them should be ok.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Nash

  • Hi Nash,

Still we are getting Vout as zero.

FIRST_TO_ALERT bit is high.  And also many registers related to SMBALERT is high.

Are we missing out something in configuration?

    Thanks,

    Siddhi
