TPS2124: Switchover Time

Part Number: TPS2124
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2121, TPS2120

Tool/software:

In datasheet switchover time is mentioned as 100us typ but I have question on the test condition Vout<Vinx & CP2<Vref.

Is 100us Switchover time holds true only under certain conditions? What are those conditions?

Does 100us Switchover time holds true for VCOMP mode, VREF mode & SEL mode?

Although datasheet only mentions typical value, what is a good estimate for the max switchover time?

  • Hi KrnB,

The VOUT < VIN part is saying the device starts connecting the switched-to source only when VOUT is/drops below VIN(switching-to), for instance if switching from IN1 to IN2 where IN1 = 5V and IN2 = 3.3V.

The second part, CP2 < VREF, I believe is in part an artifact from the TPS2120/TPS2121 data sheet where there is a faster switchover time if CP2 > VREF. The switchover time should be 100us typ for all conditions with this device.

I would estimate the max switchover time to be 200us to be safe. However, there isn't data in our system to support that, and I usually see switchover times being a little faster than what's in the data sheet, so this max time isn't guaranteed, just a design guideline.

    Thanks,

    Patrick
