TPS54362BEVM: TPS54362BEVM diodes

Part Number: TPS54362BEVM

Tool/software:

Hello,

I want to know what is the function of D1 and D2 on TPS54362BEVM devkit. I remove it from the devkit to check if it´s neccesary to put it in a design, but after that I saw that something happens, first the output start rising and after power of the power supply and turn on again, I didn´t see anything at the ouput and the power consumption of the power supply is 0A.

  • Hello,

Thank  you for reaching out.  Our expert may be ooo.  I took a look of the EVM circuit, and D1 is for battery reverse polarity protection, and D2 is the necessary freewheeling diode for the buck converter topology.  You may short out D1 if you do not have input reverse polarity risk, but you cannot remove D2 otherwise the converter will not work.  Please find Buck converter topology info in the literature for details of the functionality of D2.

    Hope this clarifies.

    Best Regards,

    Youhao
