BQ25887: Questions about power draw and load hook-up

Hello,

I am thinking about using the BQ25887 for a project that will be powered by 2x 18650 Lithium batteries. I like this chip and have a few questions about usage of operation.

1. When the device is not being charged(batteries are full), does the BQ25887 operate through the BAT pins(13 & 14)? When I want to fully power my device off, would I need to include a switch in between the battery and the BAT pin to avoid current draw?

2. Can the system load(~7A) be directly connected to the battery/BAT? There would never be a case where my system is under load and charging simultaneously.
