TPS25830A-Q1: Recommended inductor difference between TPS25830A-Q1 and TPS25830-Q1

Part Number: TPS25830A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25830-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello Expert,

Our customer is considering to use TPS25830A-Q1.

As far as I confirmed, there is similar device whose name is TPS25830-Q1.

When I compared those device from the view point of external components at 2MHz operation, it is suggesting different inductance as below.

TPS25830A-Q1 => 3.3uH
TPS25830-Q1=> 2.2uH

Then, could you please tell me why there is  this difference even though both are almost same device?

Best regards,
Kazuki Kuramochi

  • Hello Kazuki,

    First, the TPS25830A-Q1 is the newer gen version of the TPS25830-Q1. The main difference is that the TPS25830A-Q1 was designed to be MFi OCP compliant. In order to be MFi OCP compliant, the buck regulator peak current limit was raised. See the current limit specs from each datasheet below.

    Second, the inductor values that are recommended in the datasheets are based on the RMS current and saturation current specs of an inductor.. See the last sentence of 11.2.2.3 Inductor Selection of each datasheet.

    Hope this helps,
