BQ24297: Device is not wake up

Part Number: BQ24297

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer have a problem that sometimes device does not wake up.

At that time my customer measured the voltage of battery connector (Vbat and GND), they saw 2.5V.

So SYS pin could not make the voltage for the system.

But they disconnect battery from charger at that time, they could see 4.0V of battery voltage.

And if they also apply adapter power to VBUS, the voltage from SYS pin is detected.

-> So they think that sometimes the charger enters shipping mode so SYS voltage does not detected.

Is it possible to enter shipping mode if the user does not use the device about 1 day? what do you think about it?

Do you have any possible reason to explain this results of measurement?

(Now QON pin is floating in schematic.)

Please check this issue. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

Shipping mode can only be entered by writing REG07[5] = 1 and plugging in an adapter at VBUS will cause the device to exit shipping mode.

The BQ24297 has a battery over depletion protection which will turn off BATFET when battery voltage falls below Vbat_dpl threshold (typical 2.4V max 2.6V). This is mentioned in section 9.3.1.2 of the datasheet and the spec on the threshold is found on page 9.

If customer measures 2.5V at BAT pin this is likely what is causing battery to disconnect from SYS.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
