Protection against backfeeding

Part Number: LMR51420

Tool/software:

Dear TI team!

We plan to use the LMR51420 in an industrial design, to provide 5V. System input voltage is 24VDC, which is also the input for the DCDC. Due to cabling errors there is a possibility, that by error the 5V output of the DCDC is connected to 24V. We have to make the design fail safe.

During faulty situation output of the DCDC is equal to input, hence the high side FET is not at risk to my understanding. But if the converter continues switching, the low side FET would switch the output to GND.. Our idea is, to supervise the output for overvoltage condition and disable the LMR51420. In this situation all FETS are switched off. The 24V are in between the max. ratings, so the chip would survive.

Pls. check, if our assumptions are right.

Thanks in advance
