UCC2897A: UCC2897A equivalent controller for Active clamp forward converter

Part Number: UCC2897A

Tool/software:

 Hello Ti Team,

I am using active clamp forward converter in my design and UCC2897A suits my application but it is not Automotive qualified AEC-Q .We will use only AEC-Q qualified components due to our internal standard requirements.

So do we have any   equivalent of UCC2897A controller  which is AEC-Q qualified

or

Any AEC-Q qualified controller for Active clamp forward converter

please kindly check and let me know,

Thanks,

karthik

  • Hi,

No, we do not have an active clamp controller with AEC-Q qualified.

  • Ok,I have doubt need your suggestion on it Hong!

Active clamp forward converter suits my application and gives better efficiency compared to two switch forward converter. So i am considering  active clamp forward converter in my design.

We have to use only Automotive qualified AEC-Q components in our designs or projects  due to some constraints.

UCC2897A fits my requirement but it is not AEC-Q qualified and as you mentioned there is no AEC-Q  qualified  active clamp forward converter  controller in TI.

    So my doubt is now,

is there any option to go with Ti normal  PWM Controller + Ti Half bridge driver which can drive the active clamp highside forward converter operation.

As two MOSFETS operate complimentary in active clamp forward converter ,with  general Half bridge driver can we drive it or is there any limitation to Active clamp forward converter?

is there any Ti normal  PWM Controller + Ti Half bridge driver,  what is your suggestion please check and let me know Hong .

Waiting for your reply!! Thanks in Advance!

  • Hi,

TI does not have any active clamp controllers qualified for AEC-Q - that is sure so help eliminate your doubt.

As you already know an active clamp is with complementary drive, so TI also has no complimentary drive half bridge which basically same as active clamp so no qualified for AEC-Q.

A complimentary drive controller actually can be achieved by single-end PWM controller (such as UCC28C4x or UCC28C5x, or any like these) + external driver - so the main drive is from the controller and the complimentary is when the main is off then the external driver is based on that main = low to get the complimentary drive signal.
