BQ2980: How to enable dsg if CTR can not be used.

Part Number: BQ2980

Tool/software:

Dear,

We will use the BQ298009, but we do not want to use the CTR functionality. I understand that we can tie the CTR pin to ground, this should keep it on.

But how can we turn on the discharge and charge mosfets after a battery is inserted (and no charger is present)? What will happen in the case of a battery that is empty (2.5V), does it automatically start charging with CTR being low? Or will it require a reset?

We cannot give a pulse on CTR with the microcontroller, because it isn't getting power as long as the DSG mosfet is off.

Best regards,

Jan

  • Hello,

After a battery is inserted (VBAT > VUVP) and VPACK detecting a charger connection are required to enter NORMAL mode. However, shorting BAT+ to PACK+ will also turn on the device as long as the VBAT>VUVP condition is met. If the battery is at 2.5V undervoltage protection will trigger. The only way to recover from undervoltage protection is from the following:

CTR is an active high pin used for control of disabling the FETS. If this pin is tied low it will have no effect on the FETs.
