BQ25756: Can the BQ25756 charge a lead-acid battery?

Part Number: BQ25756

Tool/software:

Hi E2E,

The Li-ion battery charging profile is similar to the lead-acid battery charging profile.

Can I just adjust the float mode charging voltage of the BQ25756 to charge a lead-acid battery?

If not, can you provide some recommendations for the following solar charger specifications?

Thanks a lot!

Vin Source: Solar Panel 12V(100W)

Vin Limitation: <48V

Charge Spec: 12V/20A max.

Charge Controller:MPPT

Battery Type:AGM and LiFePO4

  • Hello Tom,

Yes, the BQ25756 can charge a lead acid battery. I'd recommend using an MCU to control the absorb and float stage. I'd also recommend setting EN_TERM=0 and EN_PRECHG=0.

We are also coming out with a dedicated lead-acid battery charger in the next few months.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best Regards,
    Ethan Galloway
