TPS7A57: TPS7A57 current limitation

Part Number: TPS7A57
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A96

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have studied TPS7A57 features and it seems very interesting for my design. However, I think I would not be capable to measure load current by a IMON pin or something like that, right?

In addition, one of the feature is "current-limit" mode which it seems that It is set when load current is grater than 5.5A, it would be possible to set this "current-limit" mode to a lower value?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello,

I am unfamiliar with an IMON pin. Could you please clarify what this type of pin is and how to work, or send over a datasheet with this pin being used?

If the output current is greater than or equal to the minimum current limit (ILIM(Min)), then the device operates in current-limit mode. Again, this data was collected for an output voltage range between 0.5V to 5V.

Minimum current limit is stated in the table below (5.2A):

This is the lowest current limit available for this device.

If you need to set a current limit, I believe we do have another device that has a programmable current limit mode, the TPS7A96:

    TPS7A96 2-A, Ultra-Low Noise, Ultra-High PSRR, RF Voltage Regulator datasheet (Rev. A) (ti.com)

Please see section 8.1.6 to learn more about setting the current limit for the TPSS7A96 device.

    Hope this helps!

    Best,

    Hannah
