TPS54200: Question about protection mode

Part Number: TPS54200

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer has a problem about TPS54200.

Their product is in mass production. And Some products have failure in production test status.

When the device is in failure, they can see that GND and PWM pin are shorted.

1. Could you guess that what kind of failure(protection mode) is happen if GND and PWM is shorted?

2. What is the minimum and maximum time of power recycle of TPS54200 if protection mode is detected?

I will post more questions if related data is captured more.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

    1. It is hard to guess based on the current information. May I understand what "production test" does the customer do?

    2. Please be noticed that TPS54200 implements shutdown-and-latch mode protection.

    Best Regards,

    Steven

  • Dear Steven,

    Thank you for your support.

    1. The customer tests 2 different ways.

1-1. Apply 3.3V for analog dimming. ->  they found 20 failures (PWM-GND shorted) in this  case.

1-2. Apply PWM waveform. -> they found 3 failures (PWM-GND shorted) in this case.

    2. Yes, I know that TPS54200 is shutdown-and-latched device. some devices are goes to normal if VCC is disconnected and connected again.

2-1. some devices goes to normal not only for one trying, but over 5 trying. Is it normal operation?

2-2. And some devices do not goes to normal even over 10 trying.

    3. Protection mode is important, but I want to know the reason of PWM-GND shorted situatuon. Can you guess the reason?

    Please check this issue. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Chase

  • Hi Chase,

I have sent you an e-mail. Let's continue the talk through e-mail. Thanks.
