LM3414HV: Inductor Calucations

Part Number: LM3414HV

Tool/software:

Hi Steven,

The minimum inductor value calculation equation is incorrect on the datasheet.

Please see below screenshot:

VIN is 48V and not 35V as entered into the equation.

Can this please be amended and up-issued to avoid confusion?

On a separate note, could you please explain more about the required saturation current for the 1A application? My switching frequency is currently 250KHz which would effectively double the minimum required inductance to 94uH - nearest nominal value being 100uH. I have chosen the following part:

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

Kind Regards,

Yousuff.

  • Hi Steven,

I have circled the errors (in red) in the inductor calculation as shown in the below screenshot:

    Thank you.

    Kind Regards,

    Yousuff.

  • Hi Yousuff,

I will check this question and feedback to you later today. Thanks for your understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Steven

  • Hi Yousuff,

I have circled the errors (in red) in the inductor calculation as shown in the below screenshot:

Great thanks for your pointing out this mistake in the datasheet. We will correct it in the next datasheet revision.

On a separate note, could you please explain more about the required saturation current for the 1A application? My switching frequency is currently 250KHz which would effectively double the minimum required inductance to 94uH - nearest nominal value being 100uH. I have chosen the following part:

The saturation current rating of the inductor should be larger than the peak current that goes through the inductor, which can be calculated as I_L_peak = I_LED + 0.5 * delta_i_L-PP.

    Best Regards,

    Steven
