LMR16006: Bootstrap regulator and COMP RC circuit

Part Number: LMR16006

Tool/software:

Hi Ti,

I am now learning the block diagram of LMR16006, and I want to figure out what function do these blocks have.

For bootstrap regulator, I know it is used for C_boot charging, but I do not know what exactly it regulate, and why it has a bandgap ref input?

For bandgap reference, I have seen many other devices also contain this block, so why do many devices have such bandgap reference?

For the RC circuit, I suppose it to be a filter to remove high frequency noise to make EA output smoother. Is my understanding correct?

Thank you very much!

Best regards,

Tristan

  • Hi Tristan,

Thank you for posting.  The expert of this device is currently out of office. Here let me try to answer you.

    1. The Bootstrap regulator is to produce a regulated voltage for the MOSFET driver use. The voltage level is not disclosed in the datasheet but it should be well above the Vth of the internal FET.

    2. Bandgap is a stable reference voltage which the other circuit uses to set their proper operating points.

    3.  The RC at the COMP node is for loop stability.  Please refer to some SMPS control theory literature for details.

    Hope this clarifies.
