BQ24079: BQ24079

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24079, BQ24074

Tool/software:

  1. What if the standard battery charging voltage is 4.2V? will BQ24079 will work in same way or do I have to use other part number like BQ24074 OR  something?
  2. How should I configure if I want to charge 2250mAh battery with simple USB just connect to any device and it will charge or Although I can connect to USB to adapter it should charge anyhow. Is there any specific setting?
  • Hi Shraddha,

Thank you for reaching out via E2E. Please see my comments below.

    1) I recommend you refer to the device comparison table on datasheet page 6. On BQ24079 battery charging voltage is 4.1V. If you need 4.2V BQ24079 will not charge your battery to full capacity. There are other charger ICs from same product family, such as BQ24074, which are configured for charging voltage of 4.2V.

    2) BQ2407x devices are standalone, so they are configured through hardware connections. I recommend you refer to the pin functions table on datasheet page 8. Based on your intended use case you will need to determine an appropriate input current limit and charge current to set. Datasheet section 10 provides connection examples you can reference.

  • Hi Garrett,

    Thank you for your response.

    1) Yes, actually battery is of 3.7V and in the datasheet they say standard battery voltage is 4.2V+/- 0.05. I think it is better to use BQ24074 then.

    2) Yes I had done that but my question is about settings of EN1 and EN2 if I choose no. 3 settings i.e. EN1 LOW and EN2 to VOUT, then it will be by default fast charging mode, right so if I plug USB with limited ratings or directly connect to PC or adapter it should work in all ways, I hope so only current will be different.

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Shraddha
