LM5066I: Current reading for Power limiting function

Part Number: LM5066I

Tool/software:

Hello,

I was hoping to get some about the power limiting function of the chip, please.

I can see how the voltage is read by the voltage across the sense and vin_k pins, but for the current how does the chip sense the current, in order to do the P=V*I calculation?

Thank you for your help in advance!

  • Hello Kunal,

Thank you for that response, so am i able to assume that the Ids and the current limit sense are calculated the same way? My confusion stems from the fact that for the current limit sense we program the current based on the 26 or 50mV threshold and so it does not matter what the rsense is. However for the Ids calculation, it is just what the current is, so if it is a voltage translation, how does the IC know what the R is to get I from V/R?

  • Hi Michael,

    Here IDS= (VIN-SENSE)*RSENSE

Chip will read  (VIN-SENSE) which is IDS*RSENSE.

Now chip amplifier is taking VIN-SENSE as input which is compared to voltage only like 26 or 50mV for limiting function. Since internally we are comparing with voltages only so we do not need rsense info to calculate actual current.
