TPS3899-Q1: Reset assertion duration and sense delay duration

Part Number: TPS3899-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3422, TPS3899

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are considering TPS3899-Q1 for our design. Our use case conditions are as follows:

 1. If the push-button connected to sense pin is pressed for a duration greater than 5 Seconds, the RESET# is asserted for a Delay of 5 seconds.
 2. If the button press was for a duration less than 5 seconds then the RESET#  will not get asserted.

Also please find the schematic diagram below.

As per our understanding, the RESET# will be asserted (for a time set via CTR pin) only if the  the SENSE pin is LOW for a duration beyond the time set by CTS pin capacitor. Is this assumption correct.?

  • Hi Binyamin,

Thanks for your question! I just want to clarify the behavior.

The Reset will be asserting as long as the voltage at Sense pin is below than threshold. CTS (sense delay)  and CTR (reset delay) are the adjustable time delays, which delays the reset assertion ( RESET is LOW) and reset de-assertion ( RESET is High) behavior. Please find the typical behavior in below.

We have TPS3422, which is a Single-channel push button supervisor with configurable delay& reset pulse. I think this may help you more.

Please find the product page link here: https://www.ti.com/product/TPS3422

  • Hi Sila,

    Thanks for your response.

We checked the TPS3422 device suggested from your side. But, the RESET Assertion duration for this device is only about 400ms. We also require a RESET Assertion duration of around 5Seconds (Hence CTR provided with 10uF capacitor) for our application.Sorry for not stressing that point in my question, even though I did mention it.

So can we implement this with TPS3899. Is this Okay.?

  • Hi Binyamin,

I will get back to you via email by the end of today.

    Best,

    Sila
