TPS54202: VIN zone thermal contact incomplete error

Part Number: TPS54202

Tool/software:

Hello,

I have a question for you. Is there a problem if the VIN zone is making just one contact completely and the other partially on pin 3 of the TPS54202 converter? When I run DRC, it shows me a thermal error, and I want to know if I can ignore this error, or to solve it, to generate gerber files right after. Thank you in advance!

This is the image with complete pcb schematic of converter (if you have any recommendations for this):

There is the schematic:

This is the zone and the pin I am talking about.

  • Hi Chenan

Do you mean the thermal relief connection on VIn pin? Suggest avoiding this because this is not good for the thermal performance. Also this can cause larger parasitic inductance on the Vin trace. Please connect directly to Vin pin.

    Other comment:

C2-805 and C1-1206 should be placed close to IC VIn and GND pin.

SW trace should be short and wide, better not to have vias on SW.

feedback resistor R4-805, R5-805 should be placed close the FB pin, keep away from noisy nodes like SW and BOOT. R5-805 should also be closed to GND pin.

Please refer to the section-10 Layout in the TPS54202 datasheet.

    The schematic:

    Recommend select inductor with Isat>ILIM_HS(3.2A for TPS54202);

C7-805 should have voltage rate >16V.

    Thanks and best regards.

  • Thank you for response! Yes it is that zone. Do you mean this board layout? This is where I got inspiration from with VIN zone and GND zone.

  • Hi Chenan

Yes Please refer to the layout example and my comments about your layout

    Thanks and best regards.
