LMR43620MQ3EVM-2M: Question about PGOOD pin

Part Number: LMR43620MQ3EVM-2M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR43620-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer is looking for LMR43620-Q1 for their new project.

They found difference between datasheet and EVM schematic about PGOOD pin.

Datasheet says that PGOOD can be open or grounded when not used.

But I can choose whether opened or connect to VCC or VOUT on the EVM.

I understand that I can PGOOD pin floated when not used, but I have a question as below;

1. What is the difference between connecting PGGOD pin to VOUT and VCC?

2. Can't I connect PGOOD pin to GND on the EVM if I do not use PGOOD pin?

Please check these issues. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

The PGOOD pin needs to be connected to an appropriate voltage source via a current limiting resistor to function properly. TI recommends limiting the current into this pin to 4 mA.

There is no difference between connecting PGOOD to VCC or VOUT, just that the voltage that PGOOD outputs as high will depend on the voltage it is connected to. Please be aware however that the maximum rating for the PGOOD pin is 20 V, and as such PGOOD cannot be connected to VOUT if it is expected to go above 20 V.

Yes, PGOOD can be grounded when un-used, but it can also be left open on the EVM by removing the jumper from J2.

For more information on PGOOD, please see section 7.3.4 of the datasheet for more details.

    Thank you,

    Joshua Austria
