TLV743P: Is reverse powering OK?

Part Number: TLV743P

Tool/software:

Is it OK to feed in 3.3V supply at the output of TLV74333, while the input is floating without any active supply being connected?

The body diode inside the device seems to conduct in this case and we can measure 3.3V at the input as well (back-powering). EN is also connected to Vin so we wonder if this scenario can somehow harm the device?

Reason for this unusual case is that we have a powered programming interface connector at the output of TLV743 which is powered during factory programming but there is no active power at the input of the TLV743.

Walter

  • Hello Walter,

    Thank you for your question.

I think the big concern here would be that reverse current could damage the device.

Especially since this device does not have a reverse current protection feature, I would let the customer know that the device does have the potential of becoming damaged from reverse current when forcing voltage on the output.

    Hope this helps!

    Best,

    Hannah
