TPS25980: TPS25980: Efuse is powering off even Load lesser than Current Limit.

Part Number: TPS25980

Tool/software:

I have used  TPS259823 Efuse in my circuit.

My Limits:: Input voltage 5.2V from a Battery Eliminating Circuit BEC. Efuse cutoff is (ILIM) 2A.

Load on the circuit is 0.36A

I have conducted two case of hot-plug test on my circuit.

Case-1: Hot plug at input. Load is connected to Efuse then Source is connected to the circuit

Vout and Imon pins are tested. Proper output voltage and required current is observed.

Then I disconnect the load. Imon goes to zero and Vout remains same(5.2V) as expected.

The below oscilloscope pictures shows the results

This Picture Indicates Blue-IMon; Yellow-Vout

Case-2 : Hot plug at load. Source is connected to Efuse then Load is connected to circuit.

Vout is observed as 5.2 whereas Imon is zero after connecting the source to the circuit.

Then I connect the load. Now Imon  and Vout is remains same.

    This Picture Indicates Blue-IMon; Yellow-Vout

Why is the circuit behaving differently in both cases?

The below is my Circuit.

Thankyou

K Bindhu.

  • Hi Bindhu,

    I apologies for the delay.

I don't see any issue with schematic. The only improvement possible is maybe use lesser clamping voltage TVS diode.

This doesn't look like eFuse not turning on. This looks like load not taking any current when you are hot-plugging it at the output of the eFuse.

Case 1 is basically eFuse is off with load and you perform the startup with hot-plug at input. This is more likely to fail. Not the case 2 where the device is already on and load is connected at the eFuse output unless the load is demanding very high current. If it is within the limit, then eFuse should cause any issue here.

    Best Regards,
