BQ25176J: BQ25176J

Part Number: BQ25176J
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25186, BQ25170

Tool/software:

Ref.: BQ25176J and bi-directional load switch

  1. Can the LEDs for PG and STAT to IN, if the max Vin is less than 6V?
  2. What is the state of PG and STAT in the absence of Vin (open-drain off – three state)?
  3. What is the current taken from the battery if no Vin and the battery is disconnected from the system (a kind of SHIP Mode)?
  4. Can you recommend a 1 cell LiPo charger with ship mode, but in a package not too big and which will not require VIA in PAD (QFN?) I do not need more than 300mA for charging. I am looking to lower the bare PCB cost

BQ25186 looks a good fit for this application, but it is in Preview state. When will its production start? Are samples available?

Is any bi-directional LOAD SWITCH available? One option will be to disconnect the battery from the charger

Thanks,

  • Hello

Can the LEDs for PG and STAT to IN, if the max Vin is less than 6V?

Possibly -- the STAT and PG absolute max is 5.5V, Vin would need to be below this point.

What is the state of PG and STAT in the absence of Vin (open-drain off – three state)?

High -- open drain mosfet OFF

What is the current taken from the battery if no Vin and the battery is disconnected from the system (a kind of SHIP Mode)?

Typical Quiescent Output Current (OUT) is 350nA, max is 600nA.

Can you recommend a 1 cell LiPo charger with ship mode, but in a package not too big and which will not require VIA in PAD (QFN?) I do not need more than 300mA for charging. I am looking to lower the bare PCB cost

The BQ25176J or BQ25170 may work they are 2mm X 2mm QFN.  Both have the 350nA OUT Quiescent Current.

BQ25186 looks a good fit for this application, but it is in Preview state. When will its production start? Are samples available?

Production is expected to start next year and samples are available by request on TI.com.

Is any bi-directional LOAD SWITCH available? One option will be to disconnect the battery from the charger

    Can explorer this option later.

What is your target ship Quiescent Current?

  • Hi,

I am contemplating the idea of using a load switch between the LiPo and the the rest of the system using TPS22916B.

Just to doble check, if TPS22916B is OFF, no current draw by the system, and Vin disconnected (no power in) then the BQ25176J no more than 600nA from the battery?

Regarding the targeted Quiescent Current, our requirement is  "as low as possible while keeping the PCB cost low Slight smile

  • Hello

The BQ25186 will have a shutdown current of 15nA.  This can be entered vis I2C transaction or button press.

The BQ25176J will be 350nA typical with worst case 600nA.

Regarding the TPS22916B I recommended the below link for more information.
