LM25116: SWpin overvoltage protection

Part Number: LM25116

Tool/software:

The spike noise at the SW terminal to which the inductor between the MOSFETs is connected is about 56V with 24V input and 17V output, exceeding the rated 45V.
Is there an overvoltage protection diode inside this SW terminal?
If used in this state, is there a possibility that the power supply IC will be damaged?

If not, would it be okay to add a snubber circuit as a countermeasure?

  • Hi,

SW should not be rising above 45 V in normal operation. Doing so and exceeding the absolute maximum rating of the device for this pin is not recommended and could cause damage to the device.

Can I ask how you are measuring SW? Please ensure that you are utilizing the tip and barrel method for measuring SW. Additionally, to rule out your test-setup as an issue, can you please measure an EVM on the same setup with the same test conditions (24 V input and 17 output) to see if a similar spike noise can be seen. If this spike noise is only present within your application, we might have to take a look at your implementation to see what is happening.
